What's included in the estimate
Equipment
Tables, courts, or stations — priced by quality tier (basic / standard / premium). Snooker tables range from ₹60K (budget) to ₹5.5L (tournament-grade). Football turfs from ₹15L to ₹80L per turf.
Lighting, A/C & fit-out
Lighting per unit, air conditioning for the venue, and interior fit-out (walls, flooring, paint, signage). Fit-out quality has the biggest swing in total cost.
Security deposit
Estimated as 2–3 months of the rent you enter. This is the single biggest hidden cost that first-time operators underestimate.
Licensing + working capital
Shop Act, local body registration, and sport-specific licences (₹10K–50K range). Working capital covers 3 months of running costs before you hit break-even.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to open a snooker club in India?
A 4-table snooker club in a Tier 2 city typically costs ₹8–18 lakh to open (standard fit-out), covering tables, lighting, A/C, fit-out, security deposit, licensing, and 3 months working capital. Metro or premium fit-out pushes this to ₹25–40 lakh. Use this estimator and enter your actual rent and supplier quotes to get a personalised figure.
What costs are NOT included in this opening cost estimate?
This estimator covers the seven largest line items. What it does not include: brokerage fee on the lease (typically 1 month's rent), interior designer fees if you hire one, initial inventory (chalk, balls, drinks or snacks stock for a café area), pre-opening marketing spend, and structural modifications like false ceilings or HVAC ducting. Use the Miscellaneous line at the bottom of the estimator for these, and budget a 10–15% contingency on top of your total.
Should I buy or lease equipment for a new sports venue?
Buy outright if you can. Leasing ₹4 lakh of equipment at typical finance rates costs ₹8,000–₹12,000 per month — money that compounds against early-stage profitability when you need every rupee. Leasing only makes sense if capital is genuinely constrained and you have confident revenue projections. Never lease budget equipment with a plan to upgrade later; poor-quality tables lose repeat customers faster than anything else.
What licences do I need to open a sports venue in India?
At minimum: a Shop and Establishment Act registration from your local municipal body (₹500–₹2,000, usually online), an FSSAI licence if you serve food or drinks (₹100–₹2,000 per year depending on scale), and a fire NOC for venues above a certain floor area. Snooker and pool clubs additionally need a gaming licence in some states — check with your district collector's office. Total licensing cost including agent fees is typically ₹10,000–₹50,000, which this estimator includes in the Licensing & registration line.
